University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE)

The University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE, see: is one of the largest German universities (with 40,000 enrolled students and 4,400 academic and non-academic staff) with excellent research reputation and an important employer in the region. The broad spectrum covered by teaching and research at UDE stretches from humanities, social sciences and economic sciences to engineering, informatics, and science departments and a large medical school.

The research institute TELIT together with its initiator the Department "Information Systems for Productions and Operations Management" (WIP) is the leading German research cluster in the fields of quality development, evaluation, and standardisation for technology-enhanced learning (TEL, also called E-Learning) and online environments with a special focus on innovation, evaluation, QM, and standardisation for TEL. It has gained an outstanding expertise as the leading German institution for TEL and its evaluation due to the unique engagement in European (CEN/TC 353) and international (ISO/IEC JTC1 SC36) standardisation bodies by its team leader for QM, evaluation and standardisation, Prof. (KR) Christian M. Stracke: Many research projects were coordinated by the department WIP including Q.E.D. as one of the biggest projects on quality and evaluation in E-Learning next many other obtained European research and development projects funded by the EC (amongst them: ODS, ARISTOTELE, AGRICOM, WACOM, eCOTOOL, VOA3R, COMPAT, SIMBASE, OERTest, OPAL, CEN eLearning Quality, TRIANGLE, EQO, eACCESS). The department WIP hosts an interdisciplinary research team covering all aspects of TEL and E-Learning (from application-orientated information systems to competence development research) and headed by Christian M. Stracke. It has participated in a huge amount of European and international research and development projects, for the full list of RTD projects see:

The success of many European projects which have been coordinated by WIP proves its management qualifications and its experience in quality management and assurance, in evaluation and project coordination ensures a professional implementation of the research, transfer and development in project and business cooperation.

Within VOA3R UDE is the leader of the pilot testing and evaluation based on the unique ISO quality standard for vocational education and training (ISO/IEC 19796-1). Prof. (KR) Christian M. Stracke as the elected ISO-Convener for QM in LET guarantees the best adaptation to the project objectives to achieve best quality and impact of the project results. UDE will strengthen the dissemination activities due to its European and international network.
