Greek Research and Technology Network (GRNET)
The Greek Research and Technology Network (GRNET S.A., http://www.grnet.gr) is a corporation owned by the Greek Ministry of Development (General Secretariat of Research & Technology - GSRT). GRNET was established as a corporation in 1998, though as a network started operating in 1995. The deployment and operation of GRNET is co-funded by the European Union and the Greek State (Ministry of Development - GSRT, Ministry of Education and Ministry of National Economy). The mission of the Greek Research and Technology Network GRNET is the provision of high-quality international and national networking services to Greek academic & research institutions and to the public and private sector in support of their research and educational activities. In VOA3R, GRNET is responsible for the coordination of the content population tasks, and provide a liaison with the environmental modeling community. It will also set up a cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) so that its repositories are interconnected with VOA3R.
Hatzakis Ilias is a consultant, currently working (since 2001) with the Greek Research & Technology Network, as a Project Manager of EU-funded projects, connected to the promotion of ICT to the academic community as well as to citizens and businesses. He is coordinating a number of international cooperation projects, in the frameworks of FP7 research program, Competitiveness and Innovation ICT Policy Support Programme (CIP-PSP), eContent, eContentplus, Leonardo, INTERREG etc. in the areas of e-learning, e-business, and the promotion of open access to scientific information.
Dr. Vassilis Protonotarios has a 5-year bachelor, a 2-year MSc and a 4-year PhD in Agricultural Biotechnology, all from the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology of the Agricultural University of Athens (Greece). He has a professional experience in the field of Organic Agriculture, both as an officer in the Directorate of Organic Agriculture of the Greek Ministry of Food and Rural Development as well from his participation in various EU projects concerning Organic Agriculture. He has been working as an external scientific associate for Agricultural University of Athens and Greek Research & Technology Network (GRNET). He is also the Greek National Editor of Organic Eprints.
He is working on topics covering educational/training resources, blended learning, educational metadata, digital collections/repositories, integration of Web 2.0 tools in the agricultural training context etc. He has been involved in content population-related tasks in various EU projects, such as the eContentPuls Organic.Edunet, the LdV Organic.Balkanet & CerOrganic, the ICT PSP Organic.Lingua and VOA3R).
